Preference Services - CTPS, FPS
There are two preference services that you cannot ignore when it comes to screening your database. Failure to comply can result in a £5000 fine.
Corporate Telephone Preference Service (CTPS)
This service was launched in April 2004 and companies can register with the CTPS to opt out of receiving unsolicited calls. Limited companies, plcs, charities and sole traders can register switchboard and direct dial numbers by registering with the CTPS. Registration lasts for twelve months and must be registered again at the end of the twelve month period.
If you are planning a B2B telemarketing campaign you need to screen against the CTPS register within 28 days of making the calls.

The Fax Preference Service (FPS)
This service was launched in 1997 by the Direct Marketing Association (DMA). This file is updated daily and contains around 2 million records. The DMA has also tried to encourage consumers to register with the FPS in an attempt to promote a positive image of the direct marketing industry.
