What happens if you call a TPS number?
There are now 14,836,546 people (May 2007) registered with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) in the UK representing over 50% of the UK's residential telephone numbers.
Unsolicited calls to anyone registered with the TPS could result in a complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). The ICO may take action under the Privacy and Electronic Regulations (PECR). This may result in a fine of up to £5000.00.
If you have an existing consumer database and are not sure if this affects you, here is the guide to marketers from ICO website.
To screen your database with the Telephone Preference Service take a free database audit with Leadline and identify your contacts who are registered with the TPS - here are more details
